Tampa Company Receives Patent For Dietary Supplement Designed to Boost Stem Cells

TAMPA, FL. (November 19, 2008) – Scientists at Natura Therapeutics, Inc., a spin-out company from the University of South Florida, have received a patent for a unique dietary supplement called NutraStem®, a synergistic blend of active botanicals and antioxidants aimed at adult stem cell regeneration.  

Adult stem cells have the potential to develop into most tissues in the body and have the capacity to migrate toward damaged areas.  According to the National Institutes of Health, the primary role of adult stem cells is to maintain and repair tissues.  “Many people are unaware that adults possess stem cells and that keeping those cells functioning normally can greatly benefit our health, especially as we age,” said Cyndy D. Haley Veterans Administration Hospital.    

Thus the patent demonstrates that the combination of ingredients found in NutraStem® helps to significantly promote stem cell nutrition and the natural growth of adult stem cell populations commonly found within the body including bone marrow stem cells, CD34+ and CD133+ cells.  NutraStem® contains a blend of wild blueberry extract, Vitamin D3, green tea extract and L-carnosine.  “All of these ingredients are beneficial in the healing process; however, it is this specific combination and dose that makes NutraStem® unique and effective in supporting the body’s cellular health*”, says Bickford.
